Topic Area Descriptions
1. Clouds and Aerosols
This session will discuss the importance of cloud and aerosol detection in the weather and climate system. This includes accurate retrievals of cloud properties, the inclusion of cloudy radiances and aerosols in NWP data assimilation.
2. Space Weather
This session will involve NOAA's space weather program including the agency's operational mission, current and future monitoring and modeling efforts, and interactions within the international space weather community.
3. High Impact Weather
This session will involve satellite detection of weather phenomena that can impact society on a daily basis. Subtopics include severe storms, lightning, and other hazards such as wildfires.
This session will detail ways in which satellite monitoring of the Earth's system help in the analysis and future predictions of climate. Examples include the detection of sea surface temperatures, ocean color, ozone, and components of the hydrologic cycle.
This session will cover the detection of atmospheric and surface features in the polar regions. These include both the cryosphere and arctic clouds.
6. Tropical Cyclones
This session will cover research on the analysis and prediction of tropical cyclones. Both geostationary and polar orbiting data are critical from the pre-genesis stage of TCs all the way through extratropical transition.
7. New Ideas/Other This topic covers new ideas and/or topics that are not included in the above topics.
