Drizzle
In meteorology, the word drizzle is used to describe liquid or freezing precipitation having very small droplet size. It differs from rain in its formation mechanism: in Europe and North America, all significant rain comes about through the cold-rain process, via the ice phase, while drizzle is formed through warm-rain processes.
The water amounts that come from drizzle do not causing flooding; however, drizzle should not be ignored. Drizzle can have significant effects on society at least in terms of
- Traffic: slippery conditions whenever the road surface is cold
- Aviation: reducing visibility, possibility of freezing drizzle
- Washout of aerosol and radioactive particles
