Shallow Snow Events

In early winter, when sea, river or large lake is still open, and cold air streams over it, we can often see evaporation fog, when the water evaporated from open surface condenses to fog droplets. A similar but stronger process can lead to formation of small but intense convective clouds and heavy, local snowfall. In USA the phenomena is called “lake effect snow”, as it was first studied at the Great Lakes.
