Signature on Doppler

The geometry of a surface cold front position (light stippling) relative to a Doppler radar site. The x′, y′ axes which are relative to the front are rotated through an angle ψ from the x,y coordinate system. After Locatelli and Hobbs, 1978

The left column (a,c,e) represents wind vector fields in the vicinity of a surface cold front (shown in radar display format). The right column (b,d,f) represents the corresponding single Doppler velocity patterns at zero elevation angle. The front is indicated by light stippling. From Wood and Brown, 1986.
