Alessandro Chiariello

I have been working at the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) since 2001. In the beginning I have worked as an aviation forecaster but in the last years I have been involved part-time in some research projects in the field of satellite meteorology and numerical models. One of my goals was also to create a link between the operational and research communities, which is indeed a challenging task.

At the beginning of year 2009 I have been appointed to the duty of Training Support Officer within the Eumetcal Programme. Eumetcal is advocated to the development of e-learning material and training courses for meteorologists, both online or in blended format. My role is very colorful: organizing courses, giving technical support to the distance phase of the courses, keeping in touch with the several members of the community, planning the strategy and helping member countries in developing their own internal training.

But I want indeed to become a trainer myself and radar meteorology is the field I would like to specialize in.

I have lived in Finland for the last twelve years, but I am Italian. Since my wife is Finnish I had to learn to cook Italian food and that became indeed one of my hobbies.

But I do enjoy the enormous possibilities of practicing sports in Finland, ranging from typical winter sports like cross-country skiing and ice-skating to mountain biking and badminton.
