Daniel Jubainville

I'm 33 years old and I was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and raised by French-speaking parents, who were originally from Ottawa.  After completing my diploma in Meteorology at Dalhousie University, I accepted a position at Oceans Ltd in St. John's, Newfoundland.  I spent 5 and a half years at Oceans Ltd., working as a weather forecaster mainly for offshore oil projects.  Our forecasts covered mainly the waters off Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, with occasional route forecasts across the Atlantic or along the Eastern Seaboard.  In June 2007, I accepted a position at the recently re-opened Newfoundland & Labrador Weather Office. At the NLWO, our area of responsibility is Newfoundland & Labrador and adjacent waters.  We experience a wide range of weather in this region and can see some of the most intense storms in the country.  The storms we see in this region usually have high winds and large amounts of precipitation which can also undergo multiple phase changes.  My experience is little more limited when it comes to thunderstorms, especially the more severe convective storms.  I'm also not very familiar with Mountain weather, at least not when dealing with a large mountain chain like the Rockies.  Radar is something which I've always felt I under-utilize, so I signed up for this course to increase my knowledge and familiarity with this valuable forecasting tool.  As for hobbies, my time lately has been totally consumed by my two month-old son, but normally I'm a big sports buff and follow avidly NHL hockey, NFL football, English soccer and even some MLB baseball.
