I
joined the Bureau of Meteorology in 1986. After 7 years of forecasting and then
completing an M.Sc in Dynamic Meteorology, I joined the Bureau of Meteorology
Training Centre (BMTC) in 1995 as a lecturer on the Graduate Diploma Meteorology
course. During this time i delivered courses on thermodynamics, mid-latitude
meteorology, cloud microphysics and thunderstorm/radar and fire
weather-related courses. During this time I also spent time as manger of the
Severe Weather Section in the Victorian Regional Forecast Centre. I became
Manager of in-service training (Curriculum Development and Ongoing Education
Group) in 2002 and have taken an active role in the development of severe
weather forecast competencies and the development and regional delivery of
in-service training programs for Australian forecasters. Major training has been
associated with associated with disaster mitigation services and the
Bureau’s Doppler radar upgrade project as well as programs associated with the
implementation of new forecast systems. I have worked at COMET for a total of 6
months building virtual training resources. In recent years I have had the
privilege of participating in many overseas forums and delivering courses (WMO,
CALmet, EumetCAL). As Principal of the Training Centre I currently manage the
Bureau’s Training Program. My hobbies include playing drums and percussion and
cycling!
