Radar Applications
The topics below will be covered during the classroom portion of the course.
Objective 3.1
Demonstrate an ability to integrate radar data with output from other operational tools during analysis and forecast production
Enabling Objectives
1. Using live or archived case data, prepare forecasts using radar data and the following other data sources:
· Satellite data
· Upper air data
· Surface data
· Model output
2. Using live or archived case data, estimate QPE amounts using radar data
3. Using live or archived case data, refine QPE forecast amounts using radar data
4. Construct a viable conceptual model and alternate scenarios by integrating radar data and data from other sources for the purposes of preparing forecasts
Objective 3.2
Demonstrate an ability to quickly assess radar data for relevant features
Enabling Objectives
1. Using live or archived case data, identify key features on the following radar products or displays within 2 minutes.
· Reflectivity products
· Doppler products
· Cross-sections
2. Assess the possible impact of these features on the forecast.
